Women's Night Out - Mehndi Party

Hello, this post is dedicated to the all the hardworking women. Women can hardly find time to relax, enjoy time with friends, catch up on old memories and share daily experiences.  Women are the most responsible person in a household, taking care of children, attending to family needs like cooking, washing, cleaning etc. Most of the days they don't even have time to leave the house.  That is why, in India, in old days, women used to allocate some days to themselves to socialize with other ladies, spend time away from family for few hours and enjoy being a woman.  Some of these days are Atla tadhey, Ashadam etc., only women are allowed.

Ashadam month usually comes in June or July .  In India the weather starts changing from summer to rainy season during this time and all the plants grow new leaves.  There is a plant called Gorintaku, also called Henna. The leaves of this plant are grinded added water, make into smooth paste, and then the paste is applied to hands and feet.  After letting the paste dry, washing the paste away leaves beautiful maroon color stain.  This is the main reason behind the Ashadam, a tradition where women/girls of all ages, married, single apply variety of Mehndi designs on their palms, share with friends and enjoy.

These traditions have changed now to women planning movie nights, birthday parties at restaurants and so on. But I want my women's night to be old traditional way with contemporary touch. Today I am going to show you how I arranged for my Women's night out - Mehndi party.

Come on ladies lets start the party.

For Mehndi party we need a place for ladies to sit and apply Mehndi, so I made the arrangements in our cozy living room.  First I placed a mattress, comfortable for sitting, and then I arranged cushions.  I chose cushion covers with bright colors like red, yellow, pink, blue and of different sizes. Lastly I added decorative bird and elephant hangings on either sides.

After setting up bed and cushions, its now time to decorate with candles.  Candles bring festive feel to any party.

After arranging and rearranging few times, I finally ended up placing one large round candle holder in the center and lantern shaped candle holders on either sides with small glass candles placed on each corner of the trays.

After arranging everything it's time to start the Mehndi party with the Mehndi cone.

Ladies you can sit comfortably and apply Mehndi on your palms.  You can use the cushions to rest your hands on while you apply Mehndi.

Please don't forget to take the return gifts.  Might I suggest bangles that match your outfit. After applying Mehndi wearing colorful bangles will bring out elegant look.

I hope every one had great time at my women's night out Mehndi party.
